Coleyville Farmhouse

 0803 Colleyville

Planning constraints:

House Code

The Problem:

Regular clients, Frank & Patty van Hest from Living Homes came to me to design their new home on their hobby farm at Coleyville. Having selected a location with sweeping views to the mountains and several more intimate view lines to a lake & nearby valley, Frank & Patty wanted a design that would capture the views as well as making the most of the orientation for passive solar heating.

Our Solution:

The various functions were separated into several zones ( Parents retreat, Family area, guest wing, services, etc.) and were laid out in a linea design, taking in to account the views & orientation. The building was raised above the ground to allow for natural ventilation and to reduce the impacts of earthworks on the sloping site. The various zones were expressed 3 dimensionally as separate building elements creating a striking form in the landscape.
